India Faces Drought

More than a quarter of districts in India face drought this year. The Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters on Tuesday that the sowing of summer crops would fall by nearly 20 percent because of poor rainfall.

He added that there was no reason to panic and that the country could cope with the situation well.

Nearly 60 percent of India's agricultural sector depends on seasonal monsoon rains, which usually come between June and September.
