Hopes and reality in Eritrea 20 years after independence

Eritrea is a young country. It gained independence only 20 years ago, and almost half the population is under 14 years of age. The country is struggling with high poverty rates. Coupled with a long period of highly demanding national service – for both men and women - it's no surprise that many Eritreans are trying to flee the country. But people don't like to talk about that.
