Syria: Heavy fighting and nearly fruitless diplomacy

Despite heavy fighting in Syria, the relief effort for the inhabitants of the besieged city of Homs continues. About a thousand civilians have been brought to safety. Meanwhile, talks on the conflict in Syria resumed in Geneva, but show little progress. UN mediator Brahimi shuttles between the two sides, who are not speaking directly at the moment, and point blame at each other for atrocities.
