If your listeners want to lead a healthier life, they no longer have to consult books – tuning in to Learning by Ear can be a first step.
Malaria is Africa’s biggest killer. The disease is spread by mosquitoes and takes the life of an African child every 30 seconds. But there are also many other potential health risks: Food can rot quickly in the heat and drinking water that isn’t boiled may cause a typhoid infection. To add to the troubles, obesity isn’t just a problem in the industrialized world anymore – it’s on the rise in Africa as well.

Prevention is easier than a cure

Many diseases are easily preventable, but most people don’t know how. Sometimes, storing food properly and taking care of personal hygiene is all that it takes. In a radio play, Learning by Ear accompanies five boys who have just started to live on their own. Listeners will join them as they begin identifying possible health threats in and around their house and simple ways to avoid them.

Learning by Ear is available in six languages: English, Kiswahili, French, Hausa, Portuguese and Amharic. Learning by Ear is supported by Germany’s Federal Foreign Office.
