Görlitz - Old City on the River Neisse

March 1, 2014

Görlitz has long had a reputation as one of Germany’s loveliest cities. The historic center features about 4,000 architectural jewels from across the centuries.

In the former Communist East Germany, Görlitz was largely neglected. Over the past 20 years, though, the historic center has been restored to its former glory. It’s a favorite of visitors and also of film crews, who use the historic facades as a backdrop. Our tour takes us past a variety of spectacular Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. We take a look at the city’s distinctive "Hall Houses” and pay a visit to the church of St. Peter and St. Paul and its fabled Sun Organ.
