Tourism in Germany is on the rise. The Federal Bureau of Statistics recorded 424 million overnight stays by tourists and business travelers, according to preliminary data for the year 2014. These figures show an increase of three percent rise from 2013's figures. The majority of travelers were domestic and accounted for 82 percent of the total overnight stays. However, the 2014 increase was driven primarily by international travelers, with overnight stays in this sector experiencing a five percent increase, to around 76 million.

The number of nationwide overnight stays has more than doubled since Germany's reunification, especially in those cities where tourism has experienced a boom in recent years.
