On the second day of their state visit to Germany, Monaco’s royal couple, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene are to visit Stuttgart following their Berlin engagements.
German President Joachim Gauck and his partner, Daniela Schadt, hosted a gala dinner for Monaco's royal couple, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, at Schloss Bellevue Palace in Berlin on Monday. It followed a meeting and boat trip with Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
While the media focus was on the fashion and style of the visitors, Monaco's status as a tax haven is a perennial topic of discussion. The only tax treaty that Monaco has in place is with France. However, there are moves to create tax treaties with other countries, including Germany.
At home in the principality, Prince Albert is auctioning 38 classic cars from his late father's collection of over a hundred European and American cars as he reorganizes the royal fleet. The lots include a 1931 Peugeot 201 Berline, 1971 Fiat 500 and a 1982 Porsche 928 S coupe.
Prince Albert said of his father's collection: “Together, we established a private collection of classic cars which is particularly close to my heart. I now wish to add some new models to the collection.” The auction will take place later this month at the Prince’s own Terrasses de Fontvieille museum in Monaco.
