German artists honored

Thomas Ostermeier, Nina Hoss and Manuela Stehr have received the highest cultural award of France. They were honored with the "Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" for their cultural achievements.

According to the French Embassy in Berlin, the three artists were outstanding German personalities contributing greatly to cultural cooperation and exchange between Germany and France. The ceremony was held on Monday in the French Embassy in Berlin, where the French Minister of Culture Fleur Pellerin presented the prestigious award to the honorees.

Since 2010, Thomas Ostermeier has been the President of the German-French Cultural Council. With various productions, he has regularly participated in the "Festival d'Avignon." Ostermeier is the artistic director of the acclaimed Schaubühne in Berlin.

Nina Hoss has worked as a theater actress in the ensemble of the Schaubühne since 2013. She has become well respected by a broad audience, largely through film productions such as "Die weiße Massai." In 2014, she also acted in the successful US series "Homeland." Besides her acting work, she is also an ambassador for the human rights organization "Terre des Femmes". Film producer Manuela Stehr has been working in the film industry for over 30 years and in 2004 produced the comedy "Alles auf Zucker."

Nina Hoss and Manuela Stehr received the award in the category "Chevalier" (knight). This level of the award may be given by the French Ministry of Culture to up to 450 people per year. Thomas Ostermeier was honored with the title of "Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" which is the third and highest category of the award, and can be given to a maximum of 50 candidates per year. iIn 2010, Obermeier was appointed "Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres."
