Food Show, Korean-Style

July 29, 2014

A woman eats in front of a webcam, with hundreds of thousands of people watching her; the latest trend in cookery shows is called "Mok Bang" and comes from South Korea. Everyday people stream hour-long images of themselves consuming food, complete with detailed reviews.

About 3,500 users are currently eating on camera in Mok-Bang videos -- for minutes, and sometimes for hours, on end. Amateur filmmaker Park Seo-Yeon is one of the stars of this odd genre. Since she began uploading her Mok-Bangs, she has quit her job as a consultant; the videos earn her 7,000 euros a month!
