Spahic gets three month ban

Disgraced footballer Emir Spahic has been banned from playing in Germany for three months for his attack on security staff at his former club Bayer Leverkusen. He's also received a fine too.

Some two weeks after attacking security guards at his former club Bayer Leverkusen, Emir Spahic has been banned from German football for three months by the country's national governing body. He also received a 20,000 euro ($21,450) fine for his actions.

Spahic, who has already agreed to end his contract with Leverkusen, accepted the decision handed down by the German Football Association's (DFB) disciplinary court on Thursday.

Where Spahic will play next season is now unknown. Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas, as well as Bosnian side FK Sarajevo, are apparently interested in signing up the 34-year-old defender.

On April 8, Spahic was filmed on camera headbutting a member of the club's security personnel after his team's German Cup loss to Bayern Munich. He was apparently trying to move with his friends to a private box on the other side of the pitch, but was not given permission to enter the playing area.

Recently, Leverkusen CEO Michael Schade told German broadcaster "Sky" that his club had to part company with Spahic "because it disrupted the organization."

"He attacked a co-worker and there are other pictures, where other things are visible too," Schade said.
