Aerial Photographs by Kacper Kowalski

Kacper Kowalski's aerial photographs of his home have won many awards. Almost every week, the Pole flies off in a mini-helicopter to take pictures of his home country. His shots often reflect the interplay between man and nature. Kowalski calls his pictures "civilization portraits.” His series "Toxic Beauty” was awarded the World Press Photo Award in 2014.

The World's First Ice Hotel

The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi in northern Sweden got started 25 years ago - by accident, in fact. And since then, the enthusiasm for it hasn't thawed, and you can now find ice hotels in many parts of the world. We visit the original.

Freeriding in the Alps

Snowboarding and skiing off piste, on ungroomed, natural terrain - that's Freeriding. The extreme sport is becoming very popular and many European winter sports regions are catering to this group. One of the trendiest places right now is Kitzbuehel in the Austrian Alps where the "Freeride Weeks” are taking place.

Paper Artists Kristin and Davy McGuire

We head to Bristol in the UK to meet Davy and Kristin McGuire. They make haunting paper theater productions that are shown all over the world. They're indeed a cut above and we were able to meet the couple behind them.

Atlantic Haven

The Portuguese island of Madeira lies about 730 kilometers off the coast of Morocco so it enjoys very moderate temperatures all year round. Discovered back in the 15th century by Portuguese sailors, it’s today an oasis of rich vegetation and a perfect destination for sun-starved tourists.
