In 2007 the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met the French wine magnate Pierre Castel, and a plan was hatched - to start producing high-quality wine in Ethiopia. The vineyard they envisaged now sits beside a lake, south of the capital Addis Ababa, and it’s just started shipping its first vintage - much of it bound for the Ethiopian diaspora.
