Welcome back. As part of a farewell tour of Europe, US president Bush has just arrived in Germany. The last seven years of German-American relations could be considered somewhat of a roller-coaster ride. After the September 11th attacks ties were at their strongest, but Germany's refusal to take part in the US-led war in Iraq poisoned relations. But despite past tensions the US remains one of Germany's closest allies outside the European Union.
