The United Nations World Food Program says it plans to resume aid flights to Burma - Journal (english) 09.05.2008 16:00 UTC

The United Nations World Food Program says it plans to resume aid flights to Burma despite the fact that earlier shipments were impounded. The UN says is negotiating with Burmese authorities to release the supplies, which are desperately needed by the victims of last weekend's cyclone. Burma's military rulers have been blocking international relief efforts and have declared that foreign aid teams are not welcome in the country. A state newspaper announced that Burmese authorities would be in charge of all aid distribution. It's estimated that one-and-a-half million people in the country are in urgent need of emergency help.
