Sustainable winegrowing around the world

Sustavino

Set up by the Technology Transfer Center of the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, this project supports European wine producers in meeting legal environmental standards. It includes improving, adapting and implementing innovative and cost-effective treatment technologies for winery wastewater and solid residues. Four research instiutions, six winegrowing cooperatives and four producers are involved in the project, which is financed by the EU.

Biodiversity & Wine Initiative

Founded in 2004 by Wines of South Africa and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), this project sets out to ensure winegrowing in South Africa is sustainable. This involves efficient use of water resources and land protection. Around126,000 hectares of land have been turned into a conservation area to compensate for the 100,000 hectares of land used for winegrowing.

Wine Institute

The organization represents over 1,000 vineyards in California and markets their wines both at home and abroad. It also trains vintners and raises awareness about climate change and its effects on winegrowing.
