Soul singer Bobby Womack dead

US soul singer Bobby Womack has died aged 70. He was a legendary figure in the R&B genre and was best known for hits including "Lookin' For A Love," and "That's The Way I Feel About 'Cha."

Womack's publicist Sonya Kolowrat on Friday confirmed the singer had died. A cause of death was not immediately known.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease two years ago and had struggled with several health problems, including prostate cancer. Womack had recently made an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and appeared to be in good health.

The soul singer, writer and composer penned a number of R&B staples. His song "It's all Over Now" went on to become a number one hit for British rock band The Rolling Stones.

Director Quinten Tarintino featured Womack's song "Across 110th Street" in his film Jackie Brown.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Womack began his career in the 1950s performing with his brothers and later in a band called the Valentinos. He wrote songs and played guitar for a number of notable artists including Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett.

Womack relaunched his career in 2012 with the comeback album "The Bravest Man in the Universe".
