World number one Serena Williams avenged her only loss at this year's WTA Championships in Singapore, crushing Simona Halep 6-3, 6-0. It was her third straight end-of-the-year title.

Four days after Romanian Halep had beaten her, Williams came roaring back in Singapore on Sunday to prove that she is still the queen of women's tennis. It was the biggest margin of victory in the final of the tournament since Kim Clijsters thrashed Amelie Mauresmo 6-2, 6-0 in 2003.

The to-love win in the second set was an overpowering demonstration, although the American said she was not trying to humiliate her opponent.

"I had to play more Serena-style tennis and just do what I do best - enforce myself," Williams said afterward.

"That's what I was trying to do. It wasn't in my mind really at all about getting a bagel. It was just about getting a win."

In the end, the 33-year-old fired 26 winners in the match. The WTA Finals win was William' seventh victory this year. It was the fifth time the American has won the event.
