Opel: The government says it needs much more clarification on the rescue plan

Constanze TressMarch 7, 2009

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she isn't yet backing a state bail-out for troubled carmaker Opel. "We will help," said the Chancellor, "when the benefit for everybody is greater than any loss. But we haven't yet reached that point." Opel -- a subsidiary of struggling US giant GM -- has put forward a rescue package that would cost the state 3.3 Billion euros. The government says it needs much more clarification on the plan.
