It was Hamburg's first win of the season and lifted the club out of the bottom three to 13th spot.

Ukraine international striker Andrei Voronin put Leverkusen ahead after 40 minutes but Guerrero, a summer signing from Bayern Munich, equalised in the 71st minute and then scored an 86th minute winner at the BayArena.

The win was welcome relief for Hamburg coach Thomas Doll, who had aspirations to challenge for the Bundesliga title this season, with the pressure growing in recent weeks.

Doll also received a boost with Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart returning to first team action after a long time out through injury.

In Sunday's other match FC Nuremberg and Eintracht Frankfurt shared the points in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Nuremberg move up to fifth with the point as their unbeaten start to the season continues.
