Germany's Social Democrats are meeting in Dresden - as the party seeks to chart a new direction, following its recent catastrophic electoral efeat. The new man at the party helm is Sigmar Gabriel - who was the Environment Minister in the last government. His main task right now is to win back the support of the disaffected SPD grass roots.
