German parliament voted for a new president in a keenly-observed election

The government's presidential candidate, Christain Wulff, is also a delegate to the Federal Assembly. As the state premier of Lower Saxony, he is entitled to cast a ballot. His opponent, Joachim Gauck, by contrast, could only look on from the visitors gallery.
