Germany's World Cup winning hero Andre Schürrle will be moving to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, effective immediately, after signing with the northern German club on Monday evening.

At the close of the German transfer window at 17:00 UTC on Monday, Schürrle's move from London-based club Chelsea still hadn't been confirmed, despite the fact that there had been ongoing speculation about the transfer to Wolfsburg for many days.

But, Wolfsburg then confirmed the move on Twitter on Monday, 30 minutes after the transfer window had closed.

Earlier in the day, Wolfsburg's commercial manager Klaus Allofs said that his club had done "all that we can to get Schürrle here," before admitting that Wolfsburg had "always said there are financial limits."

Allofs was not prepared to go into detail in front of journalists about what the sticking points in negotiations with Chelsea were. It's believed that the final transfer fee paid to the London club was in the order of 30 million euros ($34 million).

When asked at a press conference earlier on Monday about whether Schürrle would play in his new team's Tuesday night Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg's coach Dieter Hecking had said that he was unable to comment.

Schürrle, who made the crucial pass to Mario Götze that gave Germany their 2014 World Cup win, has played in the Bundesliga already. He started his professional career in Mainz before moving to Bayer Leverkusen, before then moving to England in 2013.
