Berlin explosion

During an afternoon walk in a park, a man in Berlin was injured when a plastic bag he picked up exploded. Police have cordoned off the area but found no evidence of other explosives.

A man was severely injured in an explosion in a Berlin park on Sunday, according to city police. The man was walking in Schiller Park in the capital's Wedding district when he saw a plastic bag near a bench. When he picked up the bag, its contents detonated, police said.

The man was being treated in the hospital for injuries to his face and legs and was in stable condition.

Police sealed off the park and searched the grounds for further explosives. They found nothing.
