A Chronicle: The US-detention camp in Guantanamo Bay - je 22.01.2009

Janine RabeJanuary 22, 2009

US president Barack Obama's order to close the Guanatamo Bay detention camp represents the first step in revoking widely-criticized detention policies instituted by his predeccessor George Bush. They included controversial interrogation methods, which many consider torture, and which Obama says will now be banned. He has ordered officials to launch an immediate review of the 245 detainees still held at the naval base on the island of Cuba, to ascertain whether they should be transferred, released, or prosecuted.
