Egypt expands Suez Canal

At the same time sections of the old canal are also being expanded and deepened, shortening the waiting time by up to a third. The Suez canal is Egypt's main source of revenues, generating about 5 billion dollars for the state every year. Egyptian authorities say the improvements to the canal could double that.
