ECJ tears up Data Retention Directive

It's a major victory for privacy advocates in the European Union. The European Court of Justice has struck down an EU directive that requires phone companies and internet providers to store customer data for up to two years. The court said the law violated the fundamental rights of EU citizens, and must be reformed.
