The Saargau Region – En Route Between the Saar and Moselle

We begin our trip in Saarbrücken, once the residence of the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken in the Middle Ages. Now completely restored after the destruction wreaked by the Second World War, the historic city is dominated by Baroque architecture and its emblem is the Church of St Louis.

Our next stop is the Völklinger Hütte, which was founded in 1873 as an ironworks and which is now a venue for exhibitions, classical and rock concerts and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The international ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch has its headquarters in nearby Mettlach on the Saar and we drop by the company museum. From there we head deeper into Saargau and follow in the footsteps of the Romans in the border triangle between Germany, France and Luxembourg. Then we're off to admire the fabled hairpin bend in the River Saar, the Saar Loop located in the midst of the greenest part of the Saarland, and to explore the vineyards near the border to Rheinland Pfalz and the town of Saarburg.

DJ Sascha Stroschke, better known as DJ Curly Buuh, takes us first to the Neuwieser Viertel, one of the few areas of Saarbrücken not to have been destroyed in World War Two.

Ahrenshoop – A Seaside Resort on the Pastoral Fischland-Darss Peninsula

With its quaint thatched cottages, the picturesque seaside town of Ahrenshoop nestles between the Baltic Sea and the 'Bodden' inland water. The landscape alternates between steep and flat coast, meadows and woods, sea and inland water, and is famous for its unique light.

It's inspired many creative spirits, and Ahrenshoop is still as popular with artists as it was one hundred years ago. The town is teeming with galleries and workshops of local artists and craftspeople that are often open to the public. Lovely as it is, the town has managed to retain its sleepy charm, and the hotels are small and cosy rather than modern and anonymous.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber – A Picture Postcard Medieval Town

In Rothenburg it's Christmas all year round, even in summer. At least if you're browsing the wares in Käthe Wohlfahrt's shop. And that's an unmissable highlight of any visit to Rothenburg.

The Christmas ornament manufacturer has been based in Rothenburg since 1977. Rothenburg also attracts tourists from all over the world who come to marvel at its well-preserved medieaval townscape, take leisurely strolls through the streets and take pictures for the album back home.

Our Stuttgart - Vacationing with Two Tourists from the United States

Ingo and Mary Werk from Los Angeles aren't in Germany to see the usual tourist sights such as churches and castles - they're here to see some cars.

Their first stop is the Mercedes Benz Museum, where they admire a collection of vintage wheels before heading off to the Porsche Museum which opened in January 2009. Mary remembers her first VW Beetle, while Ingo stretches his legs in a Porsche 356. See for yourself on video on demand!
