A Unique District Berlin's 'Prenzlauer Berg'
Like no other suburb in Germany, Berlin's 'Prenzlauer Berg' has been completely revamped over the past two decades. The former workers’ quarter in east Berlin developed its own unique, trendy arts scene marked by alternative living styles. After German unification, Prenzlauer Berg became Europe’s largest renovation project with millions in taxpayers' money pumped in to gentrify the district, as old derelict buildings were given fancy new façades.Nowhere else in eastern Germany was this transformation and renewal so fast or dramatic. Within a few years, many Germans from the west of the country moved in, triggering an almost complete population exchange.
