Dr. Gregor Czisch claims that Europe can satisfy its electricity demands by using only the renewable energy technologies already available

Can European societies continue to use abundant amounts of electricity, without further damage to the climate? According to the findings of one German scientist, the answer is yes. Dr. Gregor Czisch, an energy systems modeling expert at the University of Kassel, has published a research paper claiming that Europe is fully able to satisfy its electricity demands today, using only the renewable energy technologies that are now available, by transforming European nations‘ existing electricity grids into one clean, green, European "Super Grid". Sounds too good to be true? When Dr. Czisch's first published his ideas a few years ago, the world didn't take much notice. But now, in these times of exploding gas and oil prices, and climatic catastrophes, European policy-makers, as well as the global business community, are slowly waking up to the significance of his ideas. Leah MacDonnell reports.
