Oliver Glasenapp recalls the divided Berlin

Oliver Glasenapp recalls the divided Berlin he grew up in and the fall of the wall

The Berlin Wall fell 20 years ago, marking the beginning of the end of German division. For Germans in east and west, the 9th of November, 1989, was a turning point in life. Since then, DW-TV reporter and Berlin native Oliver Glasenapp has experienced constant change in his hometown. Growing up in West Berlin, he believed as a child that it was perfectly normal for cities to have walls of separation – and borders that were guarded by soldiers.
