Scientists have been using lasers since the 1960s

Just about everyone knows what a laser is, but outside of using them as a rather impractical way to cut up James Bond or to put on an impressive light show, most people don't really know what they are used for. Scientists have been experimenting with lasers since the 1960s and ever since then they have been able to use them in some rather interesting ways. Now they have become the key to all sorts of research.
