Colorful blocks of flats with a waterside facade in Hammarby Sjöstad

Pleasant for pedestrians: the lakeside district of Hammarby Sjöstad

The European Green Capital Award is a new scheme set up by the European Commission, with the aim of encouraging cities to include environmentally-friendly measures in their urban planning.

The award is given to the city which has a consistent record of achieving high environmental standards, is committed to ongoing goals for further environmental improvement, and can act as a role model for other cities.
