The European Green Capital Award is a new scheme set up by the European Commission, with the aim of encouraging cities to include environmentally-friendly measures in their urban planning.
The award is given to the city which has a consistent record of achieving high environmental standards, is committed to ongoing goals for further environmental improvement, and can act as a role model for other cities.
But what makes this Scandinavian metropolis so outstandingly eco-friendly – and why was it chosen out of 35 cities to become the European Green Capital of 2010?
