12 billion euros is what it's going to take, according to the Italian Interior Minister. Inhabitants of the region are, of course, keen to get rebuilding. But Italy has a few cautionary tales involving funding post-earthquake reconstruction. And awareness of the pitfalls has led to a national debate about just how swift – and how reliable – rebuilding will be.
