Bring an end to the "Thousand-Year Empire"
In April 1945, the Allies took Nuremberg. The US blew up a huge swastika, which covered the roof of the Zeppelin Grandstand stadium. After the war, the US Army used parts of the the Rally Grounds for their own purposes.
Today sports events and rock concerts take place on the same site. After the war, the city of Nuremberg was intent on restoring the original function of the former recreational area.
However, with the intimidating grey shapes of the Congress hall and the Zeppelin Grandstand, it is impossible to forget the site's background. Now, with the new Documentation Centre, the site is more than just a reminder – it is a place for explanation and education too.
