Jochen Kluve is a professor of empirical labor economics at Humboldt University of Berlin. Since 2007 he has also been head of the Berlin office of RWI, a leading economics research institute in Germany. Previously, Kluve was head of the labor markets unit at RWI in Essen (2003-2008). From 2001 to 2003, he worked as lecturer and post-doctoral researcher at the department of economics at the University of California at Berkeley in the United States.

Kluve studied economics in Heidelberg, Amsterdam and Dublin and holds a PhD from Heidelberg University. He has worked extensively on the evaluation of active labor market policies (ALMPs), as well as other topics in labor policy and methodological issues in impact evaluation. Kluve has worked on projects and as a consultant for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the European Commission and the governments of Mexico, Catalonia and Germany.
