Starting off as a radio service, Deutsche Welle's offerings for Indonesia have entered a new era, with TV and online programming taking the spotlight.

The reworked DW Internet site in Indonesian builds on the growing popularity of online media in the world's fourth most populous country. It focuses on scientific, environmental, cultural and educational topics, supported by its presence on social media sites Facebook and Twitter.

Meanwhile, DW's first-ever television magazine in Indonesian, Inovator, reaches local viewers via Indonesia's national broadcaster TVRI - available in nearly all parts of the country - and the privately owned Bali TV. Screened weekly, its 26-minute episodes highlight the latest developments in the fields of science and technology as well as environmental issues, with special attention given to health-related topics. The content is also available on the TVRI and Bali TV sites, as well as on DW's Indonesian site.

DW, the 24/7 English-language channel, also targets audiences in Asia. Strategic partnerships with local broadcasters enable Indonesian viewers to access news and information from Germany and Europe. DW's newest local partner is Parabola Orange TV, Indonesia’s latest direct-to-home (DTH) service, which will help deliver the English-language program to more households.

DW is offered as part of Orange TV’s "Smart Package," alongside other top global news, educational and lifestyle networks. The service will make it available to viewers in suburban areas surrounding Jakarta.

"We are privileged to be included in Parabola Orange TV’s outstanding mix of nearly 60 channels," said Petra Schneider, DW's Director of Distribution. "The addition of DW demonstrates Parabola Orange TV's belief that we have what it takes to satisfy their viewers. We are looking forward to sharing our brand of edutainment and insights into life in Europe."

Deutsche Welle has been offering news and background features in Indonesian since 1963. It currently produces multimedia content for Asian audiences in English, Bengali, Chinese, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Indonesian, Pashto, Urdu and German.
