Gouby, Mélany

Journalist, Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo

Mélanie Gouby is an independent French journalist based in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. She covers DRC for various media outlets including Radio Netherlands Worldwide, Le Figaro and AFP, producing articles, radio reports and pictures. Mélanie is also the editor-in-chief of Mutaani Magazine, a glossy magazine for young people in eastern DRC featuring articles and photos on topics such as fashion, beauty, music, society issues and business.

Before that, Mélanie worked for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in London, The Hague and Goma where she developed a radio programme about justice and human rights, trained Congolese women in radio journalism and co-developped the website uhakinews.net.

She also contributed to IWPR mobile phone reporting project in partnership with Voices of Africa, training Congolese women journalists in using mobile phones to produce videos for the web.
