President, Mother and Women against Repression in Cuba (MAR por Cuba), Havana, Cuba
Sylvia Iriondo is the president of the Cuban non-governmental organization M.A.R. por Cuba (Mothers and Women against Suppression in Cuba). She was born in Havana in 1945 and immigrated with her family to the United States after Fidel Castro took power. Even in her early youth she was involved with NGOs and organizations focused on helping others, such as the International Rescue Committee and the Cuban Refugee Emergency Center in Miami. She is a co-founder of M.A.R. por Cuba, which advocates freedom and democracy in Cuba. Aside from these activities, Iriondo is a successful real estate agent and a member of the board of the Chamber of Commerce in Key Biscayne, Florida.
