Executive Director New Narratives, Journalist Trainings, Liberia
Prue Clarke is the co-founder and executive director of New Narratives (NN), a project building independent media businesses in Africa. A key component of NN’s work is to boost the number of women in Africa’s media. Half the audience is female. Women know what women want. Boosting the number of women reporters is just good business sense. In pilot country Liberia, NN’s media houses have brought a range of once taboo subjects to national debate, prompting government and UN action on issues such as teen prostitution, child rape, teen pregnancy and unsafe abortion. In April this year NN reporting prompted government and traditional leaders to announce a moratorium on female genital cutting.
