Guy Berger has worked on media matters for almost 40 years, as a journalist, editor, manager, board member, academic, donor and civil servant. Since November 2011, he has put his experience to work at UNESCO. Prior to that, he headed the Rhodes University School of Journalism and Media Studies in South Africa, during which time he oversaw many outreach projects including the Highway Africa network of African journalists. He has published almost 50 books/monographs and/or chapters in books, and delivered more than 200 public presentations, including 13 keynote addresses. His journalism includes 200 editions of a fortnightly column to the website of South Africa’s leading independent paper, the Mail & Guardian.
