Arif Farahmand was born in 1984 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan. In 2003 he simultaneously started studying journalism in Kabul and working as a journalist for Afghanistan’s local media. He then became chief editor of ROSHANI, a monthly magazine. Upon receiving his bachelor's degree from Kabul University in 2007, Farahmand began working as editor of a daily newspaper. In 2009 he started reporting for DW's Afghanistan Service and since June 2010 he has been based in Germany working as an editor there.
