Schäfer, Dr. Isabel

Isabel Schäfer is a senior researcher and lecturer in Mediterranean studies and international relations at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She is affiliated with the Institute for Social Sciences. Her research fields include North Africa and the Middle East in international relations, Euro-Arab relations, Euro-Mediterranean relations (ENP, UfM), transformation processes, migration and mobility, civil society and culture. In the framework of the research project “Mobility-Identity-Transition in the Euro-Mediterranean Area”, she observed during a two-year-research stay in North Africa (2009-2011) the fall of Ben Ali’s regime. She has organized several scientific cooperation projects and exchange programs with universities in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.
