England coach Fabio Capello resigns

Following the English Football Association's decision to remove John Terry from his position as captain of the squad, England coach Fabio Capello has resigned.

The English Football Association has confirmed that the national team coach, Fabio Capello, has resigned.

Capello stepped down after the FA decided to strip England international John Terry of the captaincy pending his trail in July on racial abuse charges of Anton Ferdinand from Queen's Park Rangers.

Earlier this week, Capello said in a interview with Italian media that he disagreed with the FA's decision.

The FA said in a statement that Capello's response in the media was discussed during Wednesday's meeting. However, the decision seemed to be amicable.

"I would like to stress that during today's meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner," said FA Chairman David Bernstein in a statement on the organization's website. "We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future."

A press conference with Bernstein and the Club England management team will take place on Thursday at Wembley Stadium.

The FA said it will make no further comment until the press conference.
