So the drama, tears and nail-biting tension are over for another year. No, we don't mean Eurovision but rather the current series of TV casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar, the German version of international format Pop Idol, the ninth series of which recently wrapped.

And just in case you missed the televised grande finale and don't know who was this year's victor then we can tell you; 18-year-old Swiss singer Luca Hänni walked off with the title after receiving 52% of the telephone vote and just beating out fellow competitor Daniele Negroni. Suitably fresh-faced and moderately talented he may be but what kind of career awaits him? That remains to be seen. What we do know is that debut single Don' Think About Me has just debuted on the Top 100 at Number 1.

A rather barren week for German music sees us turn the spotlight onto some new international releases doing particularly well here in Deutschland. The recent release of Jack White's solo debut, Blunderbuss, had Germany abuzz and White's face seemed to be everywhere in the last few weeks. While not as raucous as his White Stripes' output, it's still proved popular enough with fans to land at Number 3 on the Album Chart.

Elsewhere, garage disco punks Gossip are gearing up to release their fifth studio LP. Their previous effort, Music for Me, peaked here at Number 10 and hopes are high for the new album. Lead single, Perfect World, has received extensive radio play over the last few weeks ensuring it a high-ranking place on the German Airplay Charts. Not to be outdone, we're playing it this week too.
