Deutsche Welle partners with Vodafone to make Learning by Ear available via mobile in Ghana

Germany’s international broadcaster has signed an agreement with Vodafone Ghana to make its popular educational program available as on-demand content for subscribers using Vodafone Live Radio.

Deutsche Welle (DW) has once again expanded its range of mobile partners in Africa by making content available to Vodafone Ghana subscribers. DW’s popular radionovela “Learning by Ear” is now available on-demand for Vodafone’s subscribers through the Vodafone Live Radio platform.
All Vodafone Ghana customers can access the audio content by using the DW section of Vodafone Live Radio at a set price of 0.9 Pesewa per minute. Customers just need to dial 313 from their mobile phone to subscribe to the Vodafone Live Radio service and follow the instructions on how to access the DW programs.
Learning by Ear programming is targeted at teenagers and young adults and provides information on important topics like HIV/Aids, human rights, democracy and the environment with an exciting mix of stories and features. It is part of the DW radio program lineup for Africa and is being rebroadcast by more than 25 partner stations in Ghana.
Learning by Ear was started as a DW initiative for Africa in 2008 with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office. Radionovelas, series and radio dramas are all very popular in Africa and the series has been successful especially with younger listeners. Learning by Ear was produced and broadcast in cooperation with partners throughout Africa. The series has received national and international awards, including “most creative radio format” from the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) in 2009.
Vodafone Ghana launched the Live Radio service on January 18, 2013. With over 3,300 subscribers already, it is proving to be one of the most innovative value added services that Vodafone is offering to its customers.
Vodafone Ghana is a leading mobile provider in the country with more than 5 million customers.
