Hundreds of people as well as media representatives had gathered in front of the hospital in anticipation of the birth of the royal couple's second child.

In July 2013, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to George Louis Alexander, whose name was not announced until two days after the birth.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron sent his best wishes on Twitter:

The leader of the opposition Labour party also congratulated the couple.

The baby will be called Princess of Cambridge and will be fourth in line to the throne after Prince Charles, Prince William nad the newborn's brother George. She is the first girl born into the British royal family for 25 years.
