Discovery with a Bang

There’s been a sensational cosmological discovery. An American team of astronomers have detected signals that testify to the events that occurred in the instant after the Big Bang.

Their telescope measurements from the South Pole seem to confirm that the universe rapidly expanded, a process known as ‘cosmic inflation’. That produced gravitational waves that left the traces that have now been measured. Tomorrow Today talks to Berlin astrophysicist Dieter Breitschwerdt about the significance of the find for astrophysics research.
