Hamburg’s proximity to water was crucial to its development. The city has some 2,500 bridges. The port is the largest in Germany. A highlight of harbor tours is the historical Speicherstadt warehouse district, which is full of listed buildings from the 19th century and continues to store goods from around the globe.
