Delivery drone test

Chiponda Chimbelu, André Leslie December 9, 2013

Deutsche Post DHL is testing a drone that could be used to deliver goods in hard-to-reach places. This follows an announcement by the Amazon CEO that his company is working on making drone delivery a reality.

On Monday (09.12.2013), Deutsche Post DHL flew a drone back and forth over the Rhine as a part of a series of tests to use unmanned aerial vehicles for delivery. DW was there to watch the tests and came back with this video. Late last month, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that his company was also working on drone delivery. But it will take some time before customers of Deutsche Post DHL or Amazon can have drones delivering packages to their doorsteps because of regulations, and the weather also poses a challenge for the flying objects.
