Deutsche Post DHL left no doubt Wednesday it wanted to continue its organic growth story without resorting to major acquisitions in the years ahead.

The DAX-listed firm said in a 2020 strategy paper it was banking on booming online trade and an increase in postal activities in emerging economies around the globe, adding that it expected 30 percent of its overall turnover to come from business in emerging nations by the end of the decade, up from at 22 percent at present.

Mentioning it had logged an operating profit of 2.86 billion euros ($3.94 billion) last year, Deutsche Post said it was aiming to post some 5 billion euros in underlying profit by 2020, meaning an 8 percent increase annually.

Big ambitions

The report showed that the firm also intended to expand its parcel service operations in Germany's neighboring countries as well as in Asia and Africa.

Last year, Deutsche Post was among the two German DX-listed firms that created the highest number of new jobs by adding just under 2,000 to its overall workforce of 169,000 people.

While suffering a 0.8-percent decline in turnover in 2013, the company was able to boost its bottom-line profit to 2.1 billion last year, marking a 28-percent jump from the previous year.
